Our Process
Authenticity is our guiding principle on every project. We aim to keep it as real as possible, ensuring every step feels true to the lived experiences of our subjects.
At the same time, we want to tell a compact, compelling, and dramatic story that will pull in our audience and move them to act.
We’ve built the following approach to establish a relationship built on trust and respect prior to production.
-
First impressions count! We like to make first contact as low pressure as possible – video calls work super well. We’ll tell them about ourselves, our goals with the project, and we’ll listen to as much as they feel comfortable sharing. Big point– we make sure we record these calls, so we have their exact words in writing.
-
It all begins with an idea. Maybe you From the transcript of that conversation, we build a script entirely from the words of our subject, ensuring the messaging is 100% their own while taking special care to align their dialogue with our visuals. This document becomes our target for production, but it’ll never be 1:1 the end result. That wouldn’t feel natural, it would come off as staged instead of authentic.
-
From the shooting script we make a plan of prompts & questions– lil’ activities meant to disarm the subject, with a collection of questions to keep the conversation flowing. Maybe we’re in the kitchen cutting carrots, talking about feeling overwhelmed by our silent suffering. Or maybe we’re putting on makeup, chatting about how we found the doctor that helped us feel accepted in our skin. The goal here is to recreate the narrative beats from the shooting script as if they were being delivered for the first time.
-
The on-set experience for non-actors can make or break our project so their comfort will be our utmost priority. We want to ensure they feel valued and respected at all times.
Ultimately, we want to create a seamless flow to our days where the talent feels free to act naturally with their friends and family, while always hitting the right emotional beats to support our narrative goals.
